In Maine’s coastal communities, we understand the power of the tide. It moves quietly but with undeniable force—a rising tide doesn’t happen by chance—it takes many forces working in sync. Resources, collaboration, awareness, and commitment all have to move together to truly lift every vessel, supporting every journey, and connecting us all. When we align our efforts—when nonprofits, donors, volunteers, and advocates work in harmony—that’s when real, lasting change happens.

Nominate a Community Member for the 2026 United Midcoast Charities Rising Tide Award for Philanthropic Excellence

For the past three years, United Midcoast Charities has honored individuals whose generosity and leadership strengthen the fabric of the Midcoast. Past recipients include Sani Wolf Fogel (2023), Karen Foxwell (2024), and Christopher Beebe (2025). Each one reflects the spirit of being the tide by lifting others and helping our community rise together.

This year, for the first time, we are inviting the entire community to help choose the next honoree.

The UMC Rising Tide Award for Philanthropic Excellence recognizes someone whose actions, whether public or quiet, help strengthen the safety net across Knox and Waldo counties. It celebrates people who embody the values of the rising tide: generosity, collaboration, compassion, and a commitment to lifting neighbors in need.

      • Volunteerism
      • Philanthropy and/or fundraising
      • Advocacy and/or community leadership
      • Acts of generosity that support neighbors and local nonprofits

Nominees may be well-known or unsung heroes. What matters is their commitment to helping our community thrive.

Why Your Nomination Matters

You see the good happening every day in food pantries, shelters, schools, health centers, and other organizations, as well as in countless acts of kindness that ripple outward. By nominating someone, you help shine a light on the people who make our tide stronger.

How to Nominate

Share the story of someone whose actions lift others. Tell us what they have done, why it matters, and how their efforts reflect the spirit of a Rising Tide and the values that keep our community moving forward.
