L.E.A.R.N. @ UMC

Leveraging and empowering area resources and networks we amplify the impact of our grant funding. We offer tangible tools and educational resources many non-profits wouldn’t otherwise have access to providing less duplication and more efficiency. Agencies can better serve Mainers when they can focus on their missions.

L.E.A.R.N. programs and services are designed based on the direct requests we get from the grantees we fund. Through surveying Nonprofit Advisory Council Members and grantees we found that in addition to ongoing funding, their greatest need is for capacity-building support, guidance, and expert advice.

Less than 30% of surveyed agencies have a budget for professional development, and accessing programs in Bangor or Portland requires expensive travel and additional staff time. Based on this feedback, and aiming to create equitable opportunities for all, UMC provides professional workshops, individual coaching, networking, and development consulting resources right here in Midcoast Maine—all at no cost to our grantees.

We are a pivotal leader in providing nonprofit professional development and technical assistance in the Midcoast. More than 85% of attendees report that they would be otherwise unable to access this kind of training and support.

What our Attendees are Saying

``Many thanks to you for a super enlightening morning!``
``UMC provided a free training to its grantees on how to find additional funding sources. They have several databases which will be very helpful in identifying organizations funding groups like But Still I Am One or The Belfast Soup Kitchen which serve our local, homeless or hungry people in Waldo County, Maine. UMC has been critical to our ability to serve our clients and this workshop was incredibly helpful. It was well- organized, thoughtfully designed in small groups, and hopefully, very effective in helping us identify more funders.``
``It was a great workshop! I am excited to take advantage of all these resources!!``
