Announcing the 2nd Annual Gingerbread Spectacular at Camden’s Christmas by the Sea

United Midcoast Charities is bringing the community together for a fun event that combines two of our four core areas of focus food and housing and educates the community on housing and food insecurity and what our partner organizations do to address the needs right here in Midcoast Maine.

The Gingerbread House Contest is open to all, with three categories: Professional, Amateur, and Youth. A winner in each category will be selected by a group of judges from the business community, and a Peoples’ Choice winner will be selected by public vote. The event will take place in the lower conference room of 16 Bay View Hotel in Camden during Christmas by the Sea. 

The public is invited to view the gingerbread houses on Friday, December 6 and Saturday, December 7 from Noon to 8pm. Viewers will vote for the Peoples’ Choice winner on Friday & Saturday with the winner announced Saturday at 7 p.m. Many of the houses will be available to take home by silent auction. Specialty cocktails will be available Saturday from 5-7pm with a portion of the proceeds going to support the work of UMC. 

Contestants will drop off their creations on Thursday, December 5 from 1-6 pm. All houses need to be paid for and picked up between 8-9 p.m. on Saturday December 7.

The Gingerbread Contest is a gentle, family-friendly introduction to very tough community issues, engaging the public with our lifesaving work to address ever-present community needs while dispelling misconceptions about food and housing, health & safety and economic security.
