United Midcoast Charities (UMC) has announced a new strategic direction that emphasizes identifying needs and finding solutions in four focus areas addressed by local nonprofit organizations: food, housing, health & safety and economic security.
The new direction comes after an intensive two-year strategic planning process that involved UMC’s agency partners, community members, donors and others. Together, they addressed three essential questions: Is UMC needed? Is UMC’s mission still relevant? And is the organization structured to continue to serve the needs of our communities for the next 75-plus years?
Nonprofits are the heart of United Midcoast Charities. Without the mission-driven work you do each and every day, UMC would not exist. Our updated mission is to energize Midcoast Maine nonprofit agencies through finance and guidance, supporting a network of resources stronger than any single organization.
This Valentine’s Day, we’re sending love to all of UMC’s supporters. Thank you for contributing to UMC’s grantmaking – which benefits more than 50 hardworking nonprofits in Knox and Waldo Counties!! Click to read our Quarter 1 e-news – forward to friends and subscribe to get the latest scoop!
Grant applications are now available at unitedmidcoastcharities.org for the organization’s 2018 grant cycle. The deadline for all grant applications is Friday, March 16. United Midcoast Charities’ annual competitive grant program assists a wide range of nonprofit agencies which provide programming aimed at promoting the welfare of residents of Knox and Waldo counties within UMC’s focus areas of food, housing, health and safety, and economic security. UMC’s preference and history has been in funding projects or organizations whose main goal is to aid low income residents.

Community Investors of Knox County’s case managers vet needs through an extensive network of local resources to make sure the need cannot be funded in any other way.
